Derek Allen Funk, 66, of Winter Springs, Florida formerly of Monroe, MI passed away from this world peacefully into the arms of his Savior Jesus Christ on January 22, 2018. He was born on October 7, 1951 in Monroe, MI to Dode and Mary Funk.
Derek is survived by his wife Ann (Connors-Bourgeois) Funk of Winter Springs, FL, Parents Derek and Mary (Mahn) Funk Irons, Mi, Children Kami (Jeffrey) Ott of Redford, Mi, Nathanael (Paula) Funk of Katy, Tx, Maryelaina (Tony) Brown of Katy, Tx, Dylan (Jenna) Funk of Coldwater Lake, MI; Stepchildren Brenda Adams of Goffstown, NH, Brian Bourgeois of Raymond, NH, Richard (Laura) Bourgeois of Hillsboro, NH; Siblings Nancy (Dr. Jimmy) Mistry of Suttons Bay, MI, David (Alexis) Funk of Madeira Beach, FL, Janet (Morris) Leonard of Newport, MI, Daniel Funk of Wellston, MI, and 36 Grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Derek was a very active child and young adult. He started off in boy scouts achieving the highest level of an Eagle Scout. He played football in Junior High and was part of the Luther League at church. Derek went on to wrestle in High School graduating from Monroe, High school in Monroe, MI in 1969. He continued his journey into college staying active. He joined ROTC, was on his college soccer team, and was in Latin Club. He then received his Bachelors of Science in Human Services from Ferris State University in 1974. While in college he worked as a probation officer in Baldwin and later as a house parent at Eagle Village in Hersey, Mi. Derek spent his summers working at Ford Motor Co. Derek found his career in sales working for Lutheran Brotherhood and later at Imperial Farms. In 2001 he moved to Florida still working in sales. He met his wife Ann (Connors-Bourgeois) Funk in June of 2003 later they joined in union on October 6, 2007. In August 2012 he started working for the Florida Department of Revenue Child Support Program as a Revenue Specialist II.
In his free time Derek enjoyed going to church, spending time with family, traveling, gambling, watching sports, dancing karaoke,playing cards, and began making his own wine. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to all.
A Visitation and reception will be held on Friday February 2, 2018 from 6:00-8:00PM. Funeral Services will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church in Casselberry, Florida on February 3, 2018 at 10:30AM. A luncheon will follow at the church.
The Honorary Pallbearers will be Nathanael Funk, Dylan Funk, Jeff Ott, Tony Brown, Ronald Jeffords, David Funk, Daniel Funk, and Tony Marchese. Pastor Tom Eggebrecht will be officiating the service.
