Della Grace Vellenga, age 98 of St Petersburg, FL. went into the arms of Jesus, April 26, 2016 at home under her daughters loving care. Della was born in Gary, Indiana on February 11th, 1918. Proceeded in death by her husband Bill in 1979, sisters Susie Fouts, Marie Bates, brothers Burdette, Harry, and Dave Shirey.
Survived by brother Jim, daughter Judy Hambrick, son's, Philip (Marilyn) FL., Paul (Barb) FL, Peter (Emma) MI, and Perry (Sharyn) CO, 9 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Della married Bill Vellenga on October 31, 1936, lived on a peppermint and vegetable farm with Bill in Ravenna, MI, raising five children. During that time went to school to become a beautician, later training others to do the same. Convinced Bill to sell the farm and move to St Petersburg, Fl in 1963, which fulfilled a dream for her of moving to paradise. Worked there as a beautician and helped Bill with his new career as a coin operated laundry owner and operator. Della loved Florida, reading, serving at her church, singing in the church choir, playing the piano, a variety of music, sewing and traveling. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.
