Obituary

Del George Beckerat left to be with his Lord on Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Born on July 3rd, 1926 in Bochum, Germany. He came to the United States through Ellis Island, N.Y. With his mother Anna Marie. He entered military service during WWII with the Navy which included tours in Japan and Africa. After the service Mr. Beckerat attended Bliss College and graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He went to work in the transportation industry as a freight loader, drove trucks, Salesman (Salesman of the year nationally) and worked his way up to Terminal Manager for Ryder Truck Lines in Tampa, Largo, Florida and Savannah, Georgia. After leaving Ryder after 30 years, he worked for Maislin Transportation and ABF Transportation. In retirement he as a liason with the Destination Tampa Bay. Mr. Beckerat was devoted to charity and community. He was a Life Member of Elks Lodge #1224, St. Petersburg, American Legion Post 273, Madeira Beach. He was a Master Mason with New England #4 Lodge, Worthington, Ohio and a Shriner. All with over 50 year memberships. He participated in Charity Newsies, Columbus, Ohio; German/American Society, Pinellas Park and Toastmasters International. He was a founding member of Neighborhood Watch in St. St. Petersburg and brought forth many safety changes including speedbumps, sidewalks and traffic lights for children and neighbors. Athletics were his passion, he was devoted to fitness and health. He was a valued member at Tyrone Racquetball Club and Lifestyle Fitness Center where he excelled in racquetball, handball, weight lifting and mentoring others. He enjoyed all sports and was a Golden Gloves boxer recognized by the USA Olympic Committee for his numerous contributions as a volunteer/advisor. Del is survived by the love of his life, his wife, Christa, who has been at his side for 42 years; children: Michael Del (Kathy) Beckerat; Pamela Sue (Dan) Smith, Deborah Ann Beckerat all of Ohio; step-daughter/caregiver, Christa Wagner of St. Petersburg; grandchildren: Tara Giuliani, Shannon Stinson, Meagan Lantz, Michael Beckerat, Heidi M. Taylor, Timothy Emrich, Matthew Wilkinson and Pamela Wilkinson all of Ohio and Tennessee. Viewing will be held at the R. Lee Williams & Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 5th from 1-3 and 5-7 pm where there will be an honorary Elk Service and a Masonic Service. Graveside Services at Memorial Park Cemetery at 12 Noon Wednesday, March 6 with Military Honors.
