Obituary

David A. Townley (Technical Sergeant of the USAF) 81 of Altamonte Springs, Florida passed away on Thursday, April 13, 2017.

Growing up in Corpus Christi, Texas, David grew to love wide open spaces, flying, country music and travel. Because of his love for airplanes, David became a pilot at age 15 and joined the USAF at the young age of 17 pursuing a love of his country and aviation. He worked as a Radio and Boom operator finishing his career as an Air Traffic Controller. After serving for 20 years with the USAF he went on to have a career with the FAA working also as an Air Traffic Controller for an additional 20 years.

During his career in the service he met his devoted wife Hortensia while serving overseas in the Azores Islands where they married and shared an adventurous life for 59 years. They raised three children together traveling throughout the US. After his retirement David was always happiest attending or witnessing any events that had to do with his fellow veterans and the USAF.

Due to the debilitating disease of Alzheimer, David spent his remaining years at home under the care of his wife. Although he no longer communicated vocally he expressed his love with a smile, a look from his clear blue eyes and a tap of his feet to the music he loved to hear so much.

He is survived by his wife Hortensia Townley, son David Townley and daughters Desiree Townley and Michelle Wells(John). Along with five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

A private church service for family will be held but friends are welcome to join for the burial ceremony being held with military honors at Highlands Cemetery at 12:30pm on Friday, April 21, 2017. In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer Foundation.
