The world lost a true community hero and beloved family man on June 19th, as David Phillips passed away peacefully at the age of 77. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Phillips, children; Joshua Phillips, Jacquelyn (Kenny) Polk, Elizabeth Phillips, and Mimi Phillips, Grandchildren; Alexis Polk, Andrea Polk, Peyton Polk, and Levi Polk, Sister in law Nancy Spencer, Brother in law Byron (Catherine) Peavy, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; Warren and Margaret Phillips, and brother Raymond Phillips.

David's impact on those around him was immeasurable. His infectious smile and sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him. His sharp intellect and unwavering generosity endeared him to countless individuals throughout his time here.

David was born on April 1, 1947, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Warren and Margaret Phillips. David began his journey with his older brother, Ray Phillips, a Georgia boy who loved football, Boy Scouts, and eating at The Varsity.

He began working at the age of 14, graduated Avondale High School in 1965, served in the United States Army, and worked his way through college to earn a B.A. in Education, and a Masters in Psychology from West Georgia University, and a Doctorate of Law from Woodrow Wilson College of Law in Atlanta, Ga. He was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

David was a music enthusiast and enjoyed telling stories about all the legends he saw in concert including The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, and Elton John.

His four children were the highlight of his life, and you would often find David and Wanda immersed in all their sports and activities. He became a leader in their home church youth programs throughout the years, where he created safe spaces and lasting memories for so many. Camping trips, Awana Olympics and Grand Prix, ski trips, and more. He made sure every child felt included and loved.

David was the happiest at the ball fields with his kids. His passion for sports and empowering youth led to his time serving as the President of Longwood Babe Ruth Baseball, and then founding the Altamonte Girls Fastpitch Softball League where he served as President, Coach, and mentor for over 18 years. His commitment continued on with his children to Lake Brantley High School where he served as a dedicated booster club member, and fan, all while balancing his professional role as CEO of IAS Financial - which he served as until his passing.

It is no wonder that he was honored as the Altamonte Springs Volunteer of the Year, and the city declared an official "David Phillips Day" on March 1st, to commemorate his tireless service to his community and youth sports.

David was a beloved husband, father, Papa, Coach, mentor, and friend. In remembering David, we celebrate a life lived with laughter, strength, and an unyielding commitment to family and community. He will be deeply missed, but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He leaves behind a rich legacy.
