Obituary

Dathel A. Hilborn, age 81 years of Winter Park, passed away on September 22, 2020. Dathel was born on November 26, 1938 in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of Howard & Doris (Papenhagen) Never. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Robert L. Hilborn and sons Mark (Sandra), Scott (Carolyn), and Michael. She is also survived by six grandchildren (Timothy, Jenna, Kirsten, Trevor, Sheriana and Aubrey) and two great grandchildren (Luke and Natalie).

Dathel grew up in Ottawa Lake, Michigan being active in 4H and helping around the family farm. After graduating from Blissfield High School in 1957, she moved to Bay City, Michigan where she met Robert Hilborn and the two were married in 1962. After the three children were born, Dathel returned to school and became a registered nurse working in St. Luke's (Saginaw, Michigan; 12 years), Winter Park Memorial (Orlando, Florida; 13 years) and various doctor offices. She was active in church including youth group activities and being the organist for 17 years at Ascension Lutheran (Saginaw, Michigan), Crafty Quilters and other activities that served the church and the community at Redeemer Lutheran and Ascension Lutheran in the Winter Park area. Dathel also knitted baby blankets for family and friends and made Christmas stockings for her family. Dathel and Robert served as airport greeters for "Give Kids the World" for 23 years helping families visiting the Orlando area.

Dathel also enjoyed experiencing God's natural gifts with trips to Germanyand Brazil (2 medical mission trips) as well as multiple places around the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.

A celebration of Life service will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church, 351 Ascension Drive, Casselberry, FL on Saturday, October 10, 2020 at 10:30 am.Dathel will be interred on October 17, 2020 in a family ceremony at the Michigan farm where she grew up.
