Darlene "Dorklene, aka Dork" Hobek went home to the Lord on Wednesday
April 14, 2021. On that day, she was also reunited with her beloved and
much missed husband, Bill "Pork" Hobek. Born in Patterson, New Jersey
on June 27, 1940, Darlene was a devoted Roman Catholic. She was a
much loved daughter of Herman and Florence Ramph.
In 6th grade, Darlene moved with her family to Tokyo, Japan, where she
lived, until graduating from high school. Her high school years were spent
at Narimasu High, where she had so many wonderful times with her high
school classes, which she often fondly recalled in stories to her friends and
family. For the last 30 years, she has always looked forward to and
enjoyed the annual reunions of her high school classmates, in a different
city across the US, every year.
Upon graduation from high school, Darlene embarked on a brief modeling
career in Japan, which she absolutely loved. Shortly thereafter, she moved
back to the United States and discovered the modeling industry not to be
as friendly or fun, as it was for her in Japan. She entered the Miss
Patterson beauty contest and was 1st runner up, which pleased Miss Flo,
immensely. Dorklene was soon heading on to bigger things in a much
bigger world.
At 21, she became an Eastern Airlines reservation agent. She loved going
to work every day, as she was tasked with planning by hand (back then)
customer's vacations and business trips. She absolutely loved her job. On
a lunch break one day, one of her reservation friends suggested that she
and Mom head over to one of the meeting rooms where they were
interviewing future Stewardesses that day. And thus began Mom's
illustrious career in the skies for Eastern Airlines. It was a job that brought
her much joy, travel opportunities all over the world and within a few years,
the love of her life, Bill "Porky" Hobek. They were happily married for 45
years. They had 4 children....Bill Jr, Lesli, Mike and Shawn. Pork and
Dork also had 3 grandsons, Jake, Will and Ben, whom they absolutely
adored. One of Pork and Dork's favorite vacation spots was Las Vegas,
which they frequented a few times, every year.
