Daniel Mahoney's Obituary
Daniel Joseph Mahoney, 89, of Altamonte Springs passed away July 22, 2020. He was born to Richard and Marcella Mahoney on April 23, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York.
Dan proudly served in the Marines and fought in the Korean War. After the War Dan worked as an Engineer trouble shooter for the Long Island Rail Road until he retired.
Dan is survived by his loving wife Evelyn Teresa of 50 years and three children and many extended family members.
Dan loved many things and he celebrated life with zest. Dan was known as Pop Pop the man, the legend to all his grandkids. Dan loved sports including Baseball and Basketball. There are many stories of him enjoying the New York Knickerbockers courtside at Madison Square Garden. Mom always had the Knicks, Mets, Yanks or Tampa Bay on for him. He saw many live games and shared stories about them. Dan was an avid fisherman and boater, a gift he shared with his family and we are all fortunate. Dan taught his kids about sports, fishing and to be kind and respectful people. Dan was an incredible story teller. Anyone who knew him walked away with a giggle.
One thing to remember and carry with you is this man loved nature and never turned his back on a stray animal or person in need. Dan was reserved, kindhearted and deeply loved his family which he told them constantly and for which we are lucky. Dan loved to clap his hands and dance, particularly Jazz, Opera and any tune to get him up and dancing.
Talk about a handshake! Dan was a true chivalrous man well-liked by all. When you read this I hope you smile and remember Heroes may leave us but they are never forgotten. Thank you for being the best leader anyone could ask for Dad. Space Dust lives on Pop!

Joseph and Tara Mahoney-Ryan, Grandchildren Tabitha, Nina and Norah and his only Great-grandson Roman of Tampa, Illinois and Longwood, FL
