Cynthia “Cindy” Flachmeier October 24, 1950 – July 31, 2026

Cindy Flachmeier, 75, of Titusville, Florida, passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 31, 2026, with her two daughters by her side.

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cindy was the oldest of six children in a large Italian family. She later raised her children in Miami before making her home in Titusville, where she touched countless lives throughout Brevard County.

Cindy dedicated her career to serving others. She began her work with The Salvation Army in 1986 in Miami, where she helped open the first AIDS homeless shelter in the United States and assisted with recovery efforts following Hurricane Andrew. In 1993 she moved to Brevard County to direct The Salvation Army’s Domestic Violence Program, where she developed a Safe House, court advocacy, counseling services, and the first Supervised Visitation Center in the area—recognized as a model program in Florida.

In 2005, Cindy became CEO of Aging Matters. During her tenure she expanded Meals on Wheels, established the Sunflower House caregiver center, launched the Vets Driving Vets transportation program, and partnered with FLORIDA TODAY on the Reaching Out holiday gift program for seniors. Under her leadership, Meals on Wheels volunteers delivered approximately two million meals and drove the equivalent of nine round trips to the moon.

Cindy held Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Social Work from Florida International University, with a focus on gerontology. She was known for her compassion, determination, warm smile, and ability to bring people together in service to those in need.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Flachmeier.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth and Melissa; her grandchildren, Sophia, Samantha, Gavin, and Grayson; her siblings, Billy, Gail, Ken, Sandy, and Diane; as well as nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and many dear friends.

Cindy’s ashes will be placed with those of her late husband in the memorial garden at Advent Lutheran Church in Melbourne. A celebration of life will be held in the fall; details will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Luther Springs Camp in Hawthorne, Florida, one of Cindy and Don’s favorite places.
