Curtis Sykora passed away at the age of 89, on Friday, July 20th.
Curt and his family moved to Altamonte Springs in 1974. Originally from Buffalo, New York, Curt spent much of his career in Connecticut and later in Atlanta before moving to Florida. During the Korean War, Curt served as an Air Force Intelligence Officer and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal for his service. Later, he earned an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Most of Curt's career was devoted to real estate development, building apartments and tract houses in Connecticut. Subsequently, in Florida and Texas, he headed operations for Grolier, Inc. which built around 5,000 mobile home park spaces. In Orlando in 1990, Curt developed Ridgewood Lodge, an extended stay motel located near SeaWorld.
In addition to his real estate brokerage and development activities, Curt worked as an investment banking consultant for several years. His hobbies included a love for Bridge and an avid pursuit of golf.
Curt will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Diane (Doug), Karen (Scott), Joanne (Ron), Susan (Kelly). Curt's legacy also continues on with his eight grandchildren, Matt, Laura, Kevin, Brooke, Amy, Jenna, Paige, and Wesley, and by his sister, Arlyn.
A celebration of Curt's life will be held on August 11, at the Historic Dubsdread Golf Club (Florida Room), 549 West Par St, Orlando, FL, 32804. The service will begin at 10:00am.
