Obituary

Claiborne "Cody" Courtright met his Savior face to face on Tuesday afternoon after a
tragic automobile accident. He was 24 years old. Cody will be remembered as a kind,
respectful, hard working young man. He is survived by his father and mother, Alan and
Saralynn Courtright, and his brother and sister-in-law, Tylor and Julie Courtright, as well as their
three children, Elijah, Jace, and Betty Ann. Cody also leaves behind his loving girlfriend,
Merideth Hoyt, of Hagerstown, Maryland.
Cody was born on December 7, 1993 in Sacramento, California. His early life was very
difficult causing him to be placed in the foster care system at the age of 5. At the age of 10, he
was brought into the Courtright home and adopted at the age of 12. Those early days were
very challenging as Cody dealt with the events of his early childhood and his new stable home.
Through much prayer, work, counseling, and love great progress was made in dealing with the
trauma of his early life events. Cody came to love being a Courtright so much, that he asked
for the family first name to be given to him in adoption, therefore the Claiborne name was his to
share with his grandfather, dad, and older brother.
Cody was an extremely hard worker and very well respected at every job he ever had.
He was a valued employee with both Chick-fil-A and Lowes. At the time of his home-going, he
was a junior at St. Petersburg College as well as an associate at Lowes Home Improvement in
St. Petersburg. Recently, he became interested in deep water diving and was pursuing his
certification.
While he will be greatly missed by all, we are confident of Cody's personal relationship
with Jesus, and his home in Heaven. As family and friends, we echo the Psalmist David when
speaking of his son in 2 Samuel 12:23, "But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I
bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me."
