Charlie Jack Ivey's Obituary
Charlie J. Ivey passed away peacefully at noon on Sunday, January 31, at the age of 91.
He was born May 23, 1924, in Sebring, Florida, the son of Nathaniel and Grace Ivey.
He grew up with brothers Berkley, Eugene and William, and sisters, Iris and Susie.
Following high school graduation at age 17, Charles joined the U.S. Army to serve in World War II.
He was part of a landing on mainland Italy with the U.S. Army VI Corp in July 1943, and saw combat with HQ, 3rd Division, 3rd Signal Company, advancing north while laying signal lines from Salerno, to Cassino, to Anzio, and eventually to Rome. The 3rd Division suffered 4,922 Killed in Action and 18,766 Wounded in Action.
Following his distinguished war service, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Florida and entered the building construction industry.
In 1953, he married his loving wife Pam, with whom he had three children, Charles (who predeceased him), Linda, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, and Russell, of Lynchburg, Ohio.
In later years, he served with the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier, retiring in 1983.
In retirement, in response to a threat from cancer, he became an adept practitioner of holistic and other forms of medicine that successfully kept the disease at bay for thirty years.
Charles had an analytical mind and an intellectual curiosity that thrived on the methodical examination of the many things that interested him.
His thirst for knowledge never stopped and, even at the age of 91, he remained a consummate user of his computer, with which he constantly researched the many, many things that captivated his interest.
He was an enormously kind and gentle and patient man, infinitely well-intended..
He left behind daughter Linda, son Russell and his wife Debbie, brother Berkley and sisters Iris and Susie, granddaughters Denise and Michelle, and grandson Kenneth.
His keen intelligence, gentle charm, and generous spirit will live forever in our memories.
He will be deeply missed.
He will be cremated and buried alongside his wife, Pam.
