On Wednesday, June 19, 2019, Charles "Chuck" Henry Mathias, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at the age of 84. Chuck was born on January 15, 1935 in Clay Center, Kansas to Jesse and Merithal (Hahn) Mathias, who preceded him in death.
He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aeronautics from St. Louis University in 1961. Throughout his engineering and sales career, Chuck found his greatest joy as a Manufacturer's Representative and President/Owner of Mathias Associates, Inc. in Longwood, Florida.
On December 1, 1957, he married Alice Louise Newbolt at First Presbyterian Church in Topeka, Kansas. They raised a daughter, Melonie Louise Hall, and son, Corey Hahn Mathias. He was a proud grandfather to Deanna Louise Hall. Many neighborhood children affectionately called him "Uncle Chuck" as he coached their sports teams and took them to the holiday firework shows in Freehold, New Jersey.
He remained active in sports officiating at a local and semi-pro level. Chuck had a passion for life and putting a smile on everyone's face. He loved playing bridge and tennis. A music lover since his clarinet playing days in high school, Chuck sang in the Chancel Choir at Wekiva Presbyterian Church, where he also served on Session and Chaired committees throughout his 41 years as a member.
Chuck proudly served active and reserved duty in the U.S. Navy Seabees stationed in Alaska, Philippines and Guam. An enthusiast of embracing all that life had to offer, Chuck owned and flew a Piper Cub plane in college only to sell it to buy his wife's engagement ring. Later in life, he proudly owned an inboard/outboard boat for his family to enjoy the many lakes of Central Florida.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, 6 months, and 18 days, Alice, his two children, Melonie and Corey, and his granddaughter, Deanna.
A memorial and celebration of life service will be held Saturday, June 22, 2019 at Wekiva Presbyterian Church, 211 Wekiva Springs Lane, Longwood, FL 32779 at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wekiva Presbyterian Church Chancel Choir.
