Charles "Doug" Hardy passed away peacefully at home on May 1, 2018 after a long battle with lung cancer.
Doug was born on May 28, 1954, in Kennewick, Washington to the late Charles T and Fronia L Hardy (Chatman). Doug had two brothers, Tom and Bobby Hardy and one half- brother, David Hardy who had all preceded him in death.
Doug served in the Air Force before being honorably discharged in 1973. After moving his family to Florida, Doug held several jobs including working for the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. Doug then went to work as a truck driver at Winn-Dixie for several years before becoming an over the road truck driver for several different trucking companies. After combining all the miles, he probably logged close to 900,000, if not more on the road.
Doug had a love for classic cars. His prized possession was his baby, a 1970 shadow gray Monte Carlo. It was kept in pristine condition, washed and waxed, and kept in the garage. If it even looked like rain you knew it wasn't coming out of the garage!
Doug was a life- long Cubs fan (even through the bad years). In 2016 he was finally able to see the Cubs win a World Series. The first thing he thought was, just like that Cubs shirt says, "Just One Before I Die," HAHA! Doug also liked to fish and was a fan of NASCAR, primarily Dale Earnhardt Sr.
Doug is survived by his wife Pat; son Chad, and daughter Jamie (Tim); grandson Justin, granddaughter Emma, and great-granddaughter Brandi; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Doug will be remembered as a caring and loving father. A great friend to many, some would tell you Doug would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Doug was also a very hard and dedicated worker. Doug Hardy will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Fl.
