Carole Hartleb (Jeffries) of Lake Helen, Florida died peacefully on August 8, 2023. Carole was a "Christmas baby", born December 25, 1945 in Gloversville, New York. She is survived by her two sons, Jeff Miles of Winter Springs, Florida and Mike Miles of Orange City, Florida, her grandson, Christian Miles, and her many brothers and sisters. She is preceded in death by her son, Terry L Straley, Jr. and her mother and father, Grace Compagnone and George Jeffries. Carole attended Deland High School and worked her entire career as a waitress, mainly for Denny's and Perkins. She was always a customer favorite and would be asked for by name by many regulars. Carole spent most of her life on a farm in Lake Helen, Florida. She loved the openness and solitude of the 16-acre farm, which provided a playground for the many dogs she owned. Carole loved her dogs and was always willing to provide a home for one in need. She also loved her pool, which came in handy on many hot summer days, as she did not like air conditioning. In retirement, Carole made many friends during her weekly visits to Walmart, which she loved.
A celebration of Carole's life is scheduled for Friday, August 18th at 3:00 pm at DeGusipe Funeral Home located at 9001 N. Orlando Ave, Maitland, Florida 32751. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation on Carole's behalf to the Southeast Volusia Humane Society at
