Obituary

Carol Ann Kenefick, aged 75, passed away peacefully with her loving husband of 53 years by her side in Winter Park, Florida on January 10, 2024. Born on October 9, 1948, in Washington D.C., Carol was known as a respected educator, devoted wife, loving mother, and doting grandmother to all of her eight grandchildren, Thomas Patrick (19), Mary Katherine (18), Colin (15), Miles (11), Evelyn (18), Finlay (9), Serena (9), and Layla Rose (2).
Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Michael Kenefick, and her children and their spouses, Brett and Becky Kenefick of Winter Park, Rebecca and Mark McLaughlin of the San Francisco Bay Area, and Sarah and Hassan Shaukat of Potomac.
Graduating from the Academy of the Holy Cross High School in 1966, Carol went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Maryland where she met her beloved husband, Michael. While raising a family and working as a full-time teacher, Carol further pursued her Masters in Education at Trinity College of D.C.

Carol chose to dedicate her lifelong career in education teaching math and science to young teens. She started her journey as a grade school teacher at St. Mary's of Rockville. Upon receiving her teaching credential, she transitioned to solely teaching math and science at Farquhar Middle School and concluded her remarkable thirty years of teaching all levels of math at Magruder High School.

However, the pride and joy of Carol's life were her grandchildren. She devoted summers to hosting her growing family at the family beach place, endless holidays to cooking gourmet meals, and traveling near and far to spoil each of them with attention, love, and secret treats.

Thank you to all the caregivers for enhancing her quality of life in her final years. Thank you to all of the endless visits from her friends and family near and far to keep her smiling and dancing as the disease progressed. Michael could not have remained by her side until the very end without the strength and support of loved ones.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 20th, at 1pm at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church of Winter Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to the National Aphasia Association. Donations can be made online at https://aphasia.org/

Carol Ann Kenefick will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
