Carol Duncan Heglmeier's Obituary
Carol Duncan Heglmeier, 85, was promoted to her eternal heavenly home Thursday, October 10, 2019 in Daytona Beach, Florida.
She leaves behind her daughter, Sandra Baker and her husband Pat; her son, Steven Heglmeier; her son, Philip Heglmeier and his wife Pak; grandson, Richard (Laura) Baker; grandson, Brian (Haley) Baker; granddaughter, Kimberly (Kiel) Campo, granddaughter, Gabrielle Heglmeier; nephew, David Heglmeier; sister-in-law, Mary Heglmeier, two great grandchildren, and many friends.
Carol was born December 25, 1933 to Millard and Sallie (Baker) Duncan in Clayton, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Roy; parents Millard and Sallie, a special aunt Iris Walling, brother Robert Duncan; brother-in-law Kenneth Heglmeier; and niece Donna (Heglmeier) Bowen.
Carol graduated from St. Vincent dePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, Virginia. Carol was completing her nurses training when she met her husband Roy on a blind date. They were married in 1955 and enjoyed 63 years of marriage before Roy passed in May of this year. Carol and Roy were inseparable until age related illnesses recently affected them both.
Carol was proud to be Mrs. Roy Heglmeier and supported her husband in his career. She was active in many community organizations and loved serving in her church. In 1969 she became a staff R.N. at Holiday Hospital in Orlando, Florida and advanced to head nurse of the 8 room surgical suite. She was never happier than when she was in the Operating Room. Carol had strong opinions of how patients should be cared for. If you spent time with her you would surely hear her experiences with the nuns who taught her as well as what she taught nurses in the O.R., or how nursing students should be taught today.
Years of sewing and crafting were Carol's signature hobbies. She was talented in floral arranging and needlework and had an eye for design. In younger years she was always working on a craft project or planning her next one. She loved to bake and her friends were fortunate recipients of those goodies.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, October 19th at 11:00 am at Emmaus Lutheran Church, 2500 S Volusia Ave, Orange City, Florida.
