Obituary

Carol Wallick Ehrhart

Carol W. Ehrhart, born Carol Louise Wallick on October 18, 1942, in York, PA, died peacefully at Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, FL, on Saturday, Feb. 3. She was 75. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Llewellyn "Doc" Ehrhart, and twin daughters Ashley Ehrhart (Oviedo) and Samantha "Mandy" Silver (husband Andrew, Winter Springs). She was preceded in death by her parents, Stewart A. Wallick and Esther E. Wallick, of York, and by her sister, Kaye Wallick, who died in a car accident at age 17.

Carol met Doc at summer church camp when both were 13 years old. They became engaged after high school and, upon Doc's graduation from college, they were married. They next moved to Ithaca, NY, where Doc pursued his PhD at Cornell University while Carol worked as a secretary at the school.

After five very cold years in upstate New York, Doc asked Carol where she'd like to live once the job offers started arriving. Without hesitating, she said, "As far south as you can take me." This decision led to her husband finding his calling as a marine turtle researcher on Florida's Space Coast and many good years in which the couple lived at Melbourne Beach, with Carol hosting memorable get-togethers for Doc's students and colleagues.

An avid reader, Carol raised her daughters with an appreciation for literature by reading the classics to them as youngsters and requesting they memorize poems for her as Christmas presents. Even as physical limitations presented challenges in recent years, she was resourceful and adventurous, and she enjoyed traveling across the country and internationally.

The family is planning a private memorial celebration of Carol's life, with details to be determined.
