Maurice A Horn, Capt., USN (RET)

Born in Walla Walla, WA. Married for 70 years to M. Cecilia Cody of Kearny, NJ. Survived by daughter, Daria Horn, son Maury R. Horn, grandson and wife Ryan and Anna Horn and two great-grandsons, Broden and Dracen in Anchorage, AK.
Maurie was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy at Columbia University, NYC July 6, 1945. The Submarine Service was his Navy home from 1949-1974. In 1952, having only 16 months of college, he achieved his Master's Degree at the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA. His distinguished career include: Command USS Blackfin 1958-60, Command Sub Division 71 1966-1967, National War College 1967-68, Command Naval Support Facility Vietnam 1970-1971, Command Submarine Flotilla 7 Japan 1971-1973. Decorations include two Legion of Merit Awards, two Secretary of the Navy Commendations, two Meritorius Unit Commendations and the Combat Action Ribbon.
In 1974 he retired to a life of helping neighbors and the ducks, squirrels, dogs and sandhill cranes which would come at the sound of his voice. Truly a man for all seasons.
Memorial Mass will be officiated by Father Charlie Mitchell at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Altamonte Springs September 17th, 2016 at 2 PM, visitation at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Monsignor Ed Thompson Vocation Fund, 861 Maitland Ave. Altamonte Springs, FL 32701, or the charity of Capt. Maurice Anderson Horn (age 93)
