Betty Sue Rutledge of St. Petersburg FL passed quietly away on July 17, 2021, at the age of 85.
Betty was born September 13, 1935, in Shawnee OK to James and Marie Brogdon. She married Bill Rutledge in October 1953 and started a family, including: Dianna Traub (Dave) of Herndon VA; Jim Rutledge (Quintine Perry) of Dallas TX; Jeannie Job (Alex) of Clearwater FL; Cathy Masse (Tom) of St. Petersburg FL. She also leaves four grandchildren: Rachel Neumann, Laura Masse, Madeline Job, Jillian Job; one great granddaughter Genevieve Neumann; brother Grey Brogdon and sister Kay Shannon.
While Betty's life was busy raising children, she always made time for a good game of Bridge or other card games. She also enjoyed gardening, be it beautiful flowers or vegetables to feed the family. These hobbies continue today in each of her children. Betty was a master at making candy for Christmas; divinity, fudge, and an Oklahoma favorite "Aunt Bill's Brown Candy", each filled with pecans.
In 1984 Betty and Bill moved to Boca Raton FL where she was delighted to be a teacher at a Christian preschool. Retirement in 2000 brought them to Redington Beach to be near their growing grandchildren. They both loved the thrill of being grandparents.
Betty was a deacon for her church, worked with the hospitality committee providing food for events, and volunteered weekly at a local food bank.
She is preceded in death by Bill (husband, married 51 years), Pat Loomis (sister), and Dave Traub (son-in-law).
Betty will be fondly remembered for her laughter and love of family.
