Owen, Betty Ruth Scott, 87, of Maitland, went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 13, 2016. Born in Lakeland, FL to Annie Laura Walker and William Dennis Scott, she graduated from Lakeland High School and attended Florida Southern College. Seeking the bright lights of a big city, Betty moved to Orlando in 1950, and married Stewart Owen in 1952. She worked for First Federal Savings & Loan for a time prior to having children and resumed her career in banking in 1967 at First National Bank of Maitland and retired in 1986 from Southeast Bank.
Betty and Stewart were active members of College Park United Methodist Church for over 60 years and served in many leadership positions. They moved to Maitland in 1965 where she became involved in community activities. She was a long-time member of the Maitland Women's Club where she enjoyed volunteering and many friendships. Betty had a great sense of humor and had an uplifting outlook on life. She and Stewart enjoyed vacationing in the NC mountains and at Longboat Key with her family.
Betty is survived by her daughters Laura Pooser (Mark) of Orlando, Peggy Keiffer (Bret) of Apopka, Nancy Elliott (Roger) of Winter Park, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild: Lauren Riley (Bryan), Brooke Elliott, Grace Keiffer, Grant Keiffer and Clayton Riley. A memorial service of her life will be held at College Park United Methodist Church in Orlando on Friday, March 18 at 12:00PM. She will be buried alongside her husband Stewart at Palm Cemetery in Winter Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to College Park United Methodist Church, Orlando. DeGusipe Funeral Home in Maitland is handling arrangements.
