Obituary

Betty Griffin, 89 of St. Petersburg, FL passed away on Oct. 31. She was born in Louisville, KY and moved to St. Petersburg with her late husband (Vaughn) in 1965. She is survived by daughters Beverly (Glen) McKelvey and Paula (Roy) Adams, three grandchildren, Lindsey (Brandon) Diaz, Tyler (Jovanna) Adams and Patrick (Melody) McKelvey, three great-grandchildren, Ella and Emilia Diaz and Mason McKelvey, and a brother, Paul Claxon. She was a retired RN and a member of the First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg for 52 years where she taught Sunday school classes and served faithfully as a greeter to those arriving at the church each week. She was known as "Memo" to her grandchildren and the numerous preschoolers at the YWCA Child Learning Center, where she volunteered for 14 years, helping teach children how to use a computer. The children's favorite theme was the letter "P" week, when she would help them design their own "Pillow" to keep. She was an avid quilter and seamstress and made many beautiful quilts, pillows, costumes and clothing. She loved to travel visiting all 50 states and many international destinations, via airplanes, cruise ships and RV's, including a recent trip to Iceland. A visitation will take place at R. Lee Williams Funeral Home on Tuesday, Nov. 6 from 11 a.m. until a Celebration of Life beginning at 1 p.m. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, 1900 Gandy Blvd. St. Petersburg, FL 33702.
