Sturr,Sr., Bernard J. �Bernie�, 75 of Gulfport FL, formerly of Cicero, NY, passed away October 22, 2015. Bernie was born on February 2, 1940 in Staten Island, NY to John and Helen Sturr. He attended Alfred St. University. He was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 58. He was employed at Carrier Corporation as an HVAC Plant Engineer until his retirement in 1998.
Bernie married the former Sylvia Docko in July 1964 and they shared a loving marriage for 51 years. He enjoyed camping and fishing on the St. Lawrence River, as well as his camp on Hyde Lake. Bernie was a music fan, always having his favorite �tunes� playing. He also enjoyed cruising with his wife and their friends. Bernie was also possessed an amazing aptitude for history and economics. His smile, bright blue eyes, insights into life, and vibrant personality will be sorely missed.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Gulfport Rehabilitation Center and the Bayfront Medical Center Critical Care Unit for their devoted and compassionate care. Bernie is survived his wife, Sylvia; Bernard J. Jr. and Kathryn Sturr of Clayton, NY, Jennifer (Sturr) and Bob Perkins of Arvada, Colorado, and Randall T. Sturr of Solvay, NY. The family will have a Celebration of Life Ceremony at the funeral home Tuesday, October 27 beginning at 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bernie�s name to your local EMT and/or fire station.
