Our dearest Mother, Benita de Leon Cuison of Lake Mary, Florida joined our Creator on August 27, 2020 at the age of 85. Her memory lives on through her children: Lita, Linda (late), Willy, Ving, Helen, John, Julie, Gina, Evangeline, and Judith; her sons-in-law: Oscar (late), Danny, Franklin, Alex, Ben, Charlie, Jun, and Sonny; her daughters-in-law: Bing and Toni; and her 24 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Benita was born on March 21, 1935 in Lingayen, Pangasinan, Philippines to Angelo and Pelagia de Leon. She grew up in Lingayen and eventually met Anacleto Cuison and got married on September 24, 1955. Together, they raised 10 children but unfortunately, her husband passed away at the young age of 38, only weeks after having their last child. Despite this tragedy, Benita, through her incredible bravery and willpower, was able to find a way to financially support her family by opening up her own diner called "ABC Canteen." It was there where she truly made a name for herself by sharing her incredible cooking to the people around her. After achieving her goal in sending all 10 of her children to college, Benita decided to close down her diner to finally retire.
Even in retirement, Benita was unable to contain her motherly instincts and unconditional love for her children. It was for that reason that Benita moved to Florida, USA in December of 2000 in guiding her youngest daughter, Judith, and her husband, Sonny, in raising their future family. Grandma Benita, or "Nanay," helped raise and take care of her 3 grandchildren, Nicholas, Ethan,
and Kyle. Her passion for cooking continued on, cooking for not only just her grandchildren, but for friends, visitors, and even for parties. It was also here in the US where she discovered a new passion: shopping. She loved going to the mall with her daughter to shop for designer bags, clothes, and shoes. She met many people and forged lifelong friendships that she would never forget. According to Benita, her stay in the US was the happiest part of her life.
Benita is a woman of strength and great faith in God. Her knack of cooking paved the way to provide for her family. She will not only be remembered by her outstanding cooking, but also for her loving compassion and pure heart. Her sacrifices are truly beyond compare. Benita, with her radiant smile and contagious laugh, will be missed but surely not forgotten.
To honor Benita's wishes, she will be buried in her hometown of Dagupan City, Philippines.
The family of Benita Cuison invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her memory.
