Barbara McCubbin Brorup Stone, 83 years old, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 17, 2015.
Born January 18,1932 in Morgantown, West Virginia, Barbara was the second child of the late Dr. Earl N. and Verna E. McCubbin of Hastings, Florida. She and her brother, David, spent their childhood and teen years in Hastings, while Dr. McCubbin worked for the University of Florida IFAS's Hasting Research and Education Center. The McCubbin's attended First Baptist Church where Barbara accepted Christ, sparking a lifelong faith commitment. She served the Lord through the years using her musical talents by playing the church organ and piano.
Barbara would go on to complete her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Rollins College in Music Education. She was a dedicated 25 year music teacher in Seminole County public schools, primarily at Idyllwilde Elementary in Sanford, FL.
In her free time, Barbara was a wonderfully creative hobbyist with constant projects that included quilting, ham radio, cake decorating, sewing, knitting, gardening, and many others.
After 41 years of marriage, Barbara was predeceased by her first husband, Carl W. Brorup, Sr. They were married August 9, 1957 at First Baptist Church, Hastings, FL and began their life together in Miami Florida with Carl's son, Carl "Sonny" Brorup, Jr. Barbara and Carl would later move to Sanford, FL to make this their home for 35 years. They had 3 daughters: Marcy, Deanna, and Melodye. The entire family were active members of First Baptist Church of Sanford, FL.
Barbara was blessed to be married a second time to the late Robert O. Stone of Kansas City, Missouri. They were married on April 25,1999 and enjoyed 12 years of marriage prior to Bob's untimely passing on March 26, 2011. Barbara enjoyed having a special part in Bob's life, as well as, the lives of his children and their families.
Barbara was also preceded in death by her wonderful and loving grandson, Chris Brorup of Eatonton, GA.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Rev. David (Pat) McCubbin, Meridian, Mississippi; her three daughters, Marcy (Doug) Medlin, Gainesville, FL; Deanna Pickens, Sanford, FL; Melodye (Nick) Jones, DeLand, FL; and her stepson, Carl (Dona) Brorup, Eatonton, GA; and 7 grandchildren, Kathryn and Suzanne Medlin; Justin (Sami), Brandin and Kaitlin Pickens; Trenten and Trever Jones.
Funeral services are planned for Monday, November 23 beginning at 2 pm. The service will be held at Sanford's DeGusipe Funeral Home (905 Laurel Ave) with Rev. Wendell Bishop, pastor of First Baptist Church of Sanford, officiating.
