Barbara was the only child of Edwin G. and Edna M. Peters born on April 4, 1927 in St. Petersburg. She attended North Ward Elementary, Mirror Lake Junior High, and graduated from St. Petersburg High School with the class of 1944. She also graduated from Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, TN with a degree in Textiles and Design. In 1946 she married Silas E. Daniel, Jr. and they were blessed with two children. Barbara was a stay-at-home Mom and devoted her time to church, PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school clinic volunteer and anything her children were involved in. Her proudest civic accomplishment was being part of a group called Future Floridians who spearheaded the drive for building the citys first Community Youth Center in the 1950s, now called Community Centers for youth and adult activities.
Following the death of Judge Daniel in 1968 Barbara worked for the city in the Public Information Department until her marriage to Clarence A. Sexton in 1971. They later worked together in Real Estate, he as Broker and she as Associate.
Barbara found Christ at Beverly Abels Bible Study, which she attended for 20 years and became a born-again Christian. Other activities included membership in Womans Service League, The Stuart Society, and All Childrens Hospital Guild. She also served on the SPHS Class of 44 Reunion Committee and the First Ladies Prayer Brunch Committee. In 2002, Barbara was chosen as a Princess in the Court of the Queen of Hearts a distinction that recognizes extensive service of female volunteers in the community, nominated by clubs and civic groups that are dedicated to supporting cultural, charitable and civic projects in Pinellas County. Barbara was an active member of the Womans Service League for 56 years and was named as Best Groomed by WSL three times and entered into their Hall of Fame, recognition for her civic service.
She never lost her joy found in gardening, crafts, decorating, sewing and flower arranging, along with extensive travel and time enjoyed with family and friends. Barbara gave much love and received it in return.
On March 16, 2010 Barbara lost her second husband Clarence C.A. Sexton, and is survived and was lovingly cared for by her son Dr. Silas E Daniel and his wife Sherry, daughter Candace Daniel-Doss and her husband Steve Doss, and her physician Dr. Robert H. Wharton. Also survived her grandson, Silas E. Daniel IV, and step-grandaughter Shay Centanni.
To C.A.
Love is a friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection, and makes allowances for human weakness.
Love is content with the present, it hopes for the future, and it doesnt brood over the past. Its the day-in and day-out chronicle of irritations, problems, compromises, small disappointments, big victories and working toward common goals.
If you have love in your life, it can make up for a great many things you lack. If you dont have it, no matter what else there is, it isnt enough. Thank you for your love. Barbara
