Barbara Jo Alford, 81, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. She was born in Rocky Mount, NC to William H. Lewis and Lilah M. Lewis. She spent most of her childhood in Fitzgerald, Georgia. After college, Barbara worked as a journalist in Radio, Magazine, and Newspaper media. On February 13, 1960 she married Hollis Harold Alford. They were married 35 years, living in Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida, before Harold passed away in 1995. Barbara remained a widow until her death, spending her time loving her family and church. She was a member of Calvary Assembly, Winter Park for 39 years. She is survived by two children, Victor Alford and Hollis Alford VanLue; six grandchildren, Jason VanLue, Julie VanLue Brown, Ann White, Leni VanLue, Kristin VanLue and Katie VanLue; and four great-grandchildren, Cade VanLue, Caroline VanLue, Mollie VanLue and Joshua Brown.
Barbara was affectionally called "Mom Jo" by almost everyone. She was the type of person that never met a stranger and loved everyone she met. We will miss her deeply and are comforted with the knowledge that she is safe in the arms of Jesus. She 'ran the race', 'fought the fight' and 'finished well.'
