Arthur "Wayne" Phillips, 88, of Uniontown, PA passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, in J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV.
Wayne was born on April 19, 1936, in Uniontown, PA the son of John Joseph and Betty Jean (King) Phillips.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Ann (Gallagher) Phillips, and his siblings, John P. Phillips, Harry Holyfield, Edna Hunt, and Isobel Tolbert.
Wayne served for 22 and a half years (1953-1976) in the United States Army and the United States Marine Corp. Ranking as a Sergeant First Class. He served in Vietnam for two years. He earned the Good Conduct Medal USMC, Good Conduct Medal 3rd US Army, Meritorious Unit, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 3 Campaigns, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Campaigns and a Bronze Star Medal. Wayne was a member of the VFW Post 47, American Legion Post 51 where he served as senior vice commander, Amvets Post 103 and BSA Troop 617 Legion Post 51.
He worked for Economy Furnace from 1976-1986 and was self-employed from 1986- until his retirement in 2000 from C & W Home Remodeling. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model airplanes, RC cars, walking in the woods and his favorite place was the riverbank.
Wayne is survived by his caregiver, Mindy Madison of Lemont Furnace, PA, brother, Lamoyne Holyfield of Lakeland, FL, and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Friends will be received in the DeGusipe Funeral Home and Crematory, 65 N. Gallatin Ave., Uniontown, PA, Stacey A. Dolfi, FD on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM and on Friday, November 15, 2024, from 10-11 AM at which time a service will be held in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Sylvan Heights Cemetery where Military Rites will be accorded. Friends are cordially invited to a luncheon honoring Wayne at 1:30 PM at the Amvets Post 103, Hopwood, PA.
