Lieutenant Commander Arthur Cornett died peacefully in his home in Paisley, Florida, August 1, 2025, at the age of 93.
Arthur is survived by his daughters, Diane Susan Watson (Paul) of Paisley, Florida, Rebecca Lynn Cornett of Clarksville, Tennessee, and Melody Ann Phillips (Barry) of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, and by his sons Charles Lamoine Cornett (Mary Lou) of Minford, Ohio, and Brian Cornett (Amy) of Clarksville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his brothers Eldon Cornett and Ray Cornett, and his sisters Catherine Owens, Ruth Hooper, Elizabeth Affronti, Jennifer Fry and Peggy Smith.
Arthur was born on February 21, 1932, in Hazard, Kentucky to his parents, Charles Daniel Cornett and Mary Belle (Fields) Cornett. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a master's degree in Russian history. He was married to the love of his life for 70 years, Eileen May (Sherwood) Cornett on March 22, 1952. He served 26 years in the United States Navy and retired as Lieutenant Commander in April 1977. After his career in the Navy, he worked at Trevecca Nazarene University as the bookstore manager and as an adjunct professor teaching Biblical studies and Russian History.
A funeral is scheduled for August 7, 2025, at Apopka Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 750 Roger Williams Rd, Apopka, FL 32703. The burial will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Eustis, FL. There will be a reception to follow at the home of the Watson's at 26625 Her Mar Rd, Paisley, FL 32767. Pastor Garry Proehl will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Arthur's life.
