Arnold E. Berg, 86, of Grand Island, Florida, passed away on December 2 after a long battle with heart disease.
Arnie was born in 1935 to Friedrich and Lydia Berg in St. Joseph, Michigan. After he graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1953. In 1956, Arnie settled down in the area to raise a family with his wife, Beverly A. Berg, of 55 years.
In 2005, Arnie retired and spent his time volunteering at Springfield Plains Elementary in Clarkston, Michigan, woodworking, cooking and baking. He loved to serve others by making his delicious soups, buckeyes and countless good home cooked meals that were loved by all. He was a kind, loving soul that never met a stranger. Anyone that had the privilege of knowing him realized that he accepted them as friends immediately.
In 2013, Arnie moved to Grand Island, Florida where he enjoyed warmer weather spending time with his partner, Lavina Messal, with his children and grandchildren, and his beloved dog Kelley. He could always be seen in the evening taking a ride in the golf cart with Kelley and her doggie friend Lily visiting neighbors. Arnie also enjoyed going to the race track with his buddies on Saturday night.
Arnie was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Beverly Berg, his father Friedrich and his mother Lydia Berg, brother Alfred Berg and sister Alida Bush. He is survived by his partner, Lavina Messal of 8 years, his son Michael Berg, daughters Kathy Mueller and Sharon Crain, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, and his sister, Adeline Anderson.
Services will be held at the Leisure Center, 1020 Sun Lake Boulevard, Grand Island, Florida on Thursday, December 9 at 10:30 am.
