Arlene Kathryn "Penny" Yochum, age 76, of Winter Park, Florida, passed away peacefully at
home in the presence of her family on June 4, 2025. Born on April 30, 1948 in Beaver, Pennsylvania to Nelson T and Lila Ruehl. Penny lived her early life in Beaver before moving to St. Clair Shores, Michigan where she graduated from St Clair Shores High School. She was a dental assistant when she met her husband, Thomas Yochum of Mount Clemens Michigan. Together they moved to Florida where they raised their two children, Julia Elizabeth of Mt. Dora, Florida and Daniel of Maitland, Florida. She is survived by her sister Joanne Gessford of Chester West Virginia as well as nieces and nephews. Her brother Nelson (Buck) Ruehl pre-deceased her.
An accomplished artist Penny expressed her creativity through watercolor painting and ceramic pottery and for a number of years operated her ceramic shop. She loved painting birds and loved nature particularly the Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve in Sanibel, Florida. As a lover of the arts, she served on the board of the Rollins College Museum where she helped raise funds for a previous expansion prior to the decision of the college to build a new museum. Penny recently made a generous gift to the museum ensuring her legacy will be remembered in the gift shop when the new museum is completed.
