Annie Edith Preston (Edith) of Altamonte Springs, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the age of 89, just shy of her 90th birthday. She was born in Orlando, FL, to the late Otis Lee & Mary Fredricka (Freddie-May) Jarvis on January 16, 1929.
Edith married Gordon Dyson Preston on August 17, 1946. They were married for 54 years, living in the College Park and Pine Hills areas, including a brief stay in Rock Hill, SC. Edith was a homemaker most of her life raising 5 children. She moved to Altamonte Springs, FL in 2009. She was a long standing member of Fairview Shores Baptist Church serving many years as choir director, soloist and pianist. Edith continued serving in the music ministry as a member of Riverside Baptist Church, as long as she was able.
The most devastating time in Edith's life was the passing of her little girl, Karen to Leukemia at the age of 15. It is through the love in Jesus Christ and the hope He promises to those who believe, that we can be assured that the two of them are now reunited.
She is preceded in death by her sister M. Frances Hughes, and brothers Otis Lee Jarvis, Jr. (O.L. or Bud), C. Wayne Jarvis, and Jasper F. Jarvis (Jack). Her husband, Gordon Dyson, son, Earl Wayne and daughter, Karen Edith, and granddaughter Wendy Preston. Survived by: brother, C. Raymond Jarvis, Sr., Sebring, FL, sons, Steven Gordon, Winter Springs, William Spencer, Altamonte Springs, Frederick Russell, Fort Pierce; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Edith lived a long life of service to God, family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, plastic canvas stitchery, crocheting, working puzzles, and going out to eat. Her favorite food was pizza.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Riverside Baptist church, 7719 Forest City Road, Orlando, FL 32810, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM. Pastor Mark Williams, officiating. Those who so desire may make a memorial donation in memory of Edith to Riverside Baptist church.
