Anna Lucarelli died on October 18, 2020 in Altamonte Springs, FL, at the age of 89. She was born in Isola Del Liri, in the province of Frosinone, Italy, on June 10th, 1931. Anna was a remarkably strong woman, whose character was defined by the life and death struggles in her early years. At age 13, she and her family were left homeless and destitute after their family home was destroyed by a bomb amidst the chaos of World War II. During that time, she also witnessed the persecution and disappearance of family members. After the war, she remembered rolling cigarettes for sale and selling Sicilian oranges to earn money. At the age of 16 she survived typhoid fever, which almost took her life.
She married Domenico Lucarelli on June 3rd, 1954 and they both arrived in the United States on November 6th, 1954, by boat, on the SS Vulcania. Shortly after their arrival, Domenico got gravely ill and Anna had to support herself during the year that took her husband's recovery. She took jobs at Woolworth, at a donut bakery and a glove factory. When her husband recovered, she already had the down payment for their first family home.
Anna proudly remembered the day she became an American citizen. She even remembered the answers of her citizenship test. The American dream became a reality for her as her husband took off in his home building business and she became a mother and homemaker. She was a gentle, devoted and caring mother who created a home for her two young boys and inspired them to grow.
She was a woman of faith and taught her family to believe and trust in God. She was a devoted grandmother who was active taking care her two granddaughters as they grew up. Friends loved her sweetness, kindness, and loving nature. She was also known for her home cooking, her homemade tomato sauce and homemade pasta, bread, and pizza.
Anna is pre-deceased by her husband Domenico and survived by her immediate family, her sons Dino and Robert Lucarelli and her grandchildren Stephanie, Jessica, and Robert Lucarelli, Jr.
