Obituary

Andrew Edward Chontos, 88, died peacefully at the Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Florida on November 21, 2014. He was born and raised in McKeesport, Pennsylvania the first child of Andrew Thomas Chontos and Margaret Kovacs Chontos on September 3, 1926. He was predeceased by a sister Dolores Chontos Reskovac, and his beloved wife of 61 years, Dorothy Belak Chontos, with whom he had three children, Andrea Chontos Peters (husband Conrad), Lori Anne Chontos, his devoted caregiver and Terry Joseph Chontos (wife Deborah). He is also survived by a granddaughter Bethany Peters Corley (husband Drew) and siblings James (wife Ann), Charles (wife Eva), Bernadette Turkaly (husband John), sister-in-law Dr. Maryann Fralic (husband Don) and many nieces and nephews.

Due to the war effort Mr. Chontos graduated early from McKeesport High School to serve in the United States Army Air Corps. After his honorable discharge he joined his father as a lineman for Bell of Pennsylvania, retiring as a supervisor in 1981. He made his home with Lori for the past two years. Mr. Chontos was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Chapter 126, Corpus Christi Parish of McKeesport, and Saint Margaret Mary Church of Winter Park. He also volunteered as an advisor for Junior Achievement.

Sadie, as he was known to many, was a dedicated and loving family man, with a unique sense of humor. He never met a stranger and was admired by his neighbors on Circle Drive in White Oak, PA. A private service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 25 in Central Florida, with interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Port Vue, PA in late spring. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, the American Macular Degeneration Association or a charity of one's choice.
