Alfonso Avila Diaz, residing in Orlando, FL departed this life peacefully at Advent Health Hospice in Altamonte Springs, FL on September 6, 2025, at the age of 93. Alfonso was born on January 18, 1932 in Armero, Colombia. He was a proud officer in the Colombian Navy who retired as Lieutenant and moved to the United States in 1965 with his wife and three children.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ana Lucia Avila Rengifo, his wife of 61 years. Alfonso is survived by his stepson Jose Sepulveda Rengifo, son Alfonso Avila Jr. Rengifo, daughter Maria Lucia Avila Rengifo, three grandsons, Jose Guillermo Sepulveda, Juan Jose Sepulveda and Javier Sepulveda, seven great grandchildren, sisters Gladys Avila and Maria Del Carmen Avila and many nieces and nephews.
The family has lost the pillar of strength that kept his family together. Alfonso was a selfless dedicated husband and father who instilled on his family his Catholic faith, love for others, responsibility, education and discipline. He was a man of strong moral principles and ethical values. He was authentic and admired that characteristic in others with honesty and integrity leading the way. He was charismatic and a charmer. Friends, family and strangers enjoyed his company and unique sense of humor.
As Alfonso begins his new journey into eternal life, his family will proudly embrace his legacy and they know that they will meet again. He will be missed by many.
