Adeline Jeanette Powell, age 100, of Lake Mary, Florida, died on her favorite day--the Lord's Day--Sunday August 1, 2021. She was the center of our family--the "rock and the soft spot." Affectionately called "Addie" she was born in Omaha, Nebraska, to Frank and Antionette (Klekacz) Netzel and grew up during the Great Depression.
At the age of 17, Addie entered the convent to pursue a life of commitment to her God. But after more than three years and final vows, "Sister Veronica" was called home to help her mother who had become seriously ill.
When World War II began and all of the "boys" went off to war, Addie, age 23, worked as a proud, patriotic "Rosie the Riveter" installing machine gun sights at the bomber plant famous for building the B-29 "Enola Gay" that bombed Hiroshima and led to ending the war. In 1945, she married a handsome Marine named Richard.
During her years as a housewife and mother, Addie worked in specialty retail clothing
shops and developed an enthusiastic managerial style that motivated sales people. She
was admired for having a keen sense of style, color and fashion and always "dressed
to the nines."
Addie was dedicated to helping others and was involved with numerous charitable organizations as well as volunteering for Ronald McDonald Houses and the Girl Scouts of America; for decades, she and the local Sunshine Club helped support the Russell Home for Atypical Children. For the past 24 years, she was a devoted member of the St. Margaret Mary Catholic church in Winter Park.
She is survived by four children: Jeanette Rodgers, Lake Mary, FL; Sheri Presutti, Winter Park, FL; Ronald (Sharon) Piskorski, Camdenton, MO; and Judith (Keith) Sanford, Houston, TX. "Gram" and "Gigi" is also survived by five grand children and seven great-grand children: Shelly Young, Palm Coast, FL; Kendall (Kylee) Jones, Megan and Trevor, Dunedin, FL; Paula Priester (Jim) Hastings, FL; Valentino Presutti III (Samantha) Madison, Olivia, Valentino IV, and Isabella, Palm Coast, FL; and Natalie (Jeremy) Norton, Lia and Eli, Apopka, FL; niece Marjorie Dawson, San Antonio, TX, and extended family throughout the United States.
Adeline, Addie, Mom, Gram and Gigi -- our everlasting gift -- was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard Piskorski; sister, Evelyn Goodrich; sisters, Helen and Dorothy Netzel and Lucille Jurczyk; brothers Frank Netzel, Jr. and Leo Jurczyk.
Attributing her longevity to "...God, family and friends--with lots of dancing in between," Addie lived her blessed life with joyful passion.
Graveside Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Queen Of Angels Catholic Cemetery, 1901 Queen of Angels Drive, Winter Park, FL 32792.
Addie's family invites you to share a fond memory or leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her loving memory.
