Sarajane Stephens Stoudenmire 'Sally', a beloved mother, dedicated teacher, and cherished member of her community, passed away on May 2, 2024 after a well-fought battle with cancer. She was surrounded by family and friends who adored her.
Sarajane is survived by her two loving children, Shane Wilson and Zachary, and her sister Maribeth Stephens (Orlando). She is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Stanley, with whom she shared 44 years with, and her beloved dachshund Bella.
Sarajane was born in 1946 and moved to St. Petersburg in 1952 from Harrisville, Ohio. Growing up, she was active in her church youth group, the International Order of the Rainbow Girls, Rojans, played saxophone and supported various other service organizations. After graduating Dixie Hollins High School in 1964 she attended St. Petersburg College and majored in Earlier Childhood Education.
As a lifelong educator, Sarajane dedicated over 25 years to the Pinellas County School System teaching at Gulfport, Perkins and Pinellas Central Elementary. Her passion for teaching extended to her role as a preschool teacher at the Pasadena Community Church and Assistant Youth Director, where she was a member of the congregation.
She enjoyed cooking and was always trying new recipes, loved college football, to tear it up on the dance floor, and giving hand-crafted Christmas gifts. If you needed a helping hand, locating an obscure item or needed help remembering a random piece of information she was your girl.
In her retirement, Sarajane remained active and engaged in her community. She was a proud member and Correspondence Secretary at Pass-A-Grille Woman's Club where she was a member for 10 years, and an active board member in the Five Towns Community. She devoted countless hours to various charities throughout Pinellas County. Her generosity and compassion touched many lives.
Sarajane was also an avid craftsman, she was always trying new crafts throughout the years, but she found the most joy in creating handmade cards. She delighted in sharing her beautiful creations with friends, spreading joy and love through her artistry.
Her kindness, quick wit, creative spirit, and sharp mind will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charities Sarajane passionately supported in her honor:
