Rosemary Hutton Craine

May 30, 1959 - February 14, 2022

On April 6, 1989, Rosemary Hutton met Kelly Craine. Exactly a month later on May 6, already madly in love, they eloped to Las Vegas and married. So began "The Love Story of Rosemary and Kelly," a story that came to an abrupt earthly ending on Valentine's Day. "We fell in love instantly," said Kelly, who stayed by his wife's side during the short illness that swiftly took Rosemary from those who loved her, all of whom have been collectively diminished by their loss. A faithful Catholic, a devoted mother to Mary Elizabeth, their only child, Rosemary was a lover of Peace and of God's Creation. A loyal sister to 9 siblings, Rosemary also cared for her mother, Kathleen Stonick, in the final years of her mother's life. After meeting Rosemary, Kelly fell into a trance. They were spending every minute they could together. "I was missing work; she was missing work," Kelly said. When a co-worker told him: "You are glowing, man," Kelly said: "I really love this woman." That's when Kelly told Rosemary, "I would marry you tomorrow." "No you wouldn't," Rosemary said, adding, "OK." In those first 30 days, Kelly realized he and Rosemary had a lot in common. Both were post-Vietnam War peacetime military veterans, Rosemary in the Air Force, Kelly in the Navy. Both left the armed forces as doves, who shared a love of the environment and had "hearts for the poor." As Catholics they took seriously Jesus' call to love the "least of these," injunctions that comprise the Church's Corporal Works of Mercy taken from the Gospel of Matthew (25:31-46). "She just shined," Kelly said. "This is the perfect woman." Rosemary and Kelly's union received its greatest blessing when, on October 21, 1999, their family was completed with the birth of their daughter Mary Elizabeth. Born in Hackensack, New Jersey, the daughter of Kathleen O'Neill Hutton and Paul Hutton, Rosemary and some of her siblings moved to California, where she was introduced to Kelly by her brother Wayne. Later, they settled in Casselberry, Florida, where they were devoted members of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs. Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather, Walter Stonick, and eight siblings. She is survived by her husband, Kelly, her daughter Mary Elizabeth, her brother, Wayne Hutton and sister, Cynthia Cole and many friends, nieces and nephews. While those who love Rosemary are steeped in grief by our loss, we are also uplifted because we now have Rosemary as our Saint Intercessor before the Throne of God. Rosemary Craine — Pray for Us. Tributes: Rosemary's sister, Cynthia, who became Rosemary's "big sister" when Rosemary's mother married Cynthia's father, said: "Me and Rosemary were very close growing up as kids. I loved, loved, loved having a sister. Of course I am very sad about her death. I remember going to her house in Oradell (N.J.) trying to teach her the alphabet and how to read. She was like the best thing that happened to me as a kid." Rosemary's younger brother, Wayne, who lives in California, said Rosemary always looked after him and kept in touch across the miles. Said Wayne: "To me she was a free spirit with an old soul. She was my favorite sister. She always looked after me. She always checked on me, making sure my life was going good. She was a very caring sister. It's real sad." Rosemary’s first cousin, Deirdre O'Neill Kelly, said she enjoyed her childhood stays with Rosemary at their grandparents' bungalow at New Jersey’s Atlantic Highlands. Deirdre's father, Dennis O'Neill, was Kathleen's younger brother. Said Deirdre: “I am heartbroken; this really hurts. I’m going to miss her so much. She was my childhood companion. She was just a very loving and open and giving person.” A friend, expressing condolences to Deirdre, said: “I hope your cousin Rosemary is dancing with the angels.” “I have no doubt that she is," Deirdre replied. "She was a fabulous person. Her smile couldn’t be beat, and now she’s all smiles, no doubt.” In December of 2020, Rosemary, Kelly and Mary Elizabeth made an RV trip to North Carolina to visit Rosemary's first cousin, Patrick O'Neill and his wife, Mary Rider. Patrick's father, Terence O'Neill, was Kathleen's younger brother. Rosemary brought with her many keepsakes from Patrick's father's childhood that she had gleaned from her mother's personal effects. Said Patrick: "My father died when I was still 3-years-old. I had virtually no remembrances of his life. The photographs of my dad, his childhood prayer book and school items that Rosemary gave me are now very special to me. Rosemary was always thinking of others; a woman full of love and kindness. She was a true child of God." The family of Rosemary Craine invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her loving memory.
