Michael A. Fish

September 14, 1938 - March 26, 2022

Michael Fish passed away on March 26, 2022 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife Mary Patricia (Grady), daughter Michele Angevine, Sons Michael (Annette) Fish and Robert Fish; five grandchildren, Jason Crown, Taylor Webber (Justin), Alex Angevine, Brittne Fish, Michael Fish; 1 great grandchild, Iver Webber. He is also survived by his brother Edward Biggest. Michael owned and operated the FOB for Mt. Hawley airport in Peoria Illinois along with his partner Dennis Driscoll for over 20 years. The General Aviation business was extremely successful with aviators from central Illinois flying in for their expertise in maintenance and flight school. It was a hub for local business flights for years. Mike loved flying with thousands of hours of flight time, he was instrument, commercial and multi-engine rated. He earned his A&P license and everyone came to Mike to work on their planes. He was loved in and out of the aviation world and well respected among aviators. Michael always knew who was in the air just by the sound of their engine. When he moved to Florida he became an instructor for Aviation Institute of Maintenance and quickly earned “Instructor of the Year” award. His colleagues and students loved Michael and he was always willing to help out anyone who needed it. He had a great understanding of planes how and why they flew and loved to work on planes in the shop. Michael and Mary made several trips together in his beloved Cessna 210 and when possible, took their dog Buddy along for the flight, where he would curl up in the back seat and sleep to the drone of the engine. Michael had his last flight in March of this year in the backseat of a 172 as we flew around the shores of Florida. He was content and was thrilled to be in the air once again. Michael was a great aviator, father, husband, and best friend and he will be missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be on April 23, 2022 at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Altamonte Springs, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Alzheimer’s research organization or the Diabetes foundation. The family of Michael Fish invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in his loving memory.
