Marilyn Larue Smith

August 21, 1935 - January 30, 2022

Marilyn Larue Smith, 86, of Pottersville, NY, went home to be with Jesus on January 30, 2022, in Sanford, FL. Marilyn was born August 21, 1935, in Dundee, IA, the daughter of Cutler and Mabel (Brown) Weston. She graduated from Lamont High School in 1953. Marilyn was united in marriage to Lowell Smith on December 29, 1959 at the First Baptist Church (Manchester, IA). She attended Moody Bible Institute, Wheaton College, and graduated from Upper Iowa University with an Associate of Arts Degree in Teaching. She taught second grade in Manchester, IA, and seventh & eighth grade in Lamont, IA. She worked at Bible Tracts Inc. in Waterloo, IA. She also provided office services and was a curriculum assistant in Bible Clubs at Word of Life Fellowship, Schroon Lake, NY. Marilyn loved to serve and volunteered for 3 years with Continental Baptist Builders (Bradenton & Beverly Hills, FL), for 6 years with Pioneers (Orlando, FL), and 12 years with NTM/Ethnos 360 (Sanford, FL). Marilyn accepted Christ at 5 years old. Her sister showed her John 3:16 and explained the good news of Jesus. She confessed her sins and prayed to receive Christ as her Savior. She went public with her faith through believer’s water baptism at 12 years of age, and in 8th grade she dedicated her life to serve Jesus at East Iowa Bible Camp (Deep River, IA). Marilyn loved Jesus and enjoyed reading and studying her Bible that she referred to as Bible Instruction Before Leaving Earth. She taught Sunday School, Daily Vacation Bible School, and various Bible studies for women. She was a faithful prayer warrior for her family, friends, and missionaries. Throughout her life, she was a member at First Baptist Church (Manchester, IA), Cedar Heights Baptist Church (Cedar Falls, IA), and Mountainside Bible Chapel (Schroon Lake, NY). She delighted in the beauty of God’s creation, walking with her husband, spending time with her family, and playing games with friends. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Lowell Smith; her son, Rodney (Leslie) of Burlington, NC; her daughter, Lynell of Fortaleza, Brazil; and her son, Matthew (Catherine) of Cortland, NY; six grandchildren, Katherine (Kyle) Day, Jacinth Smith, Gabriel Smith, Joshua Smith, Christopher Smith, Gabriel (Natalie) Smith, Alexander Smith; and one great grandchild, Abigail Day. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Kochka of Reno, NV. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and leaves a Godly legacy. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her. She was predeceased by her parents, Cutler and Mabel Weston; four brothers (Raymond, Lynne, Dean, and Keith), and two sisters (Joyce and Beulah). A Celebration of Life Service is scheduled for 11:00am on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Open Bible Baptist Church located at 2801 Grayson Street, Orange City, FL. A lunch reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Marilyn’s life. Marilyn will be interred at a later date at Coffin’s Grove Baker Cemetery in Manchester, IA.
