Lynore Joanne Levenhagen
January 27, 1957 - December 9, 2021
Lynore Joanne Levenhagen, “Dr. Lev”, age 64, of Altamonte Springs, Florida, passed away on December 9, 2021. She was born January 27, 1957 in Indianapolis, IN, the daughter of William and Joanne Levenhagen. She had a passion for teaching, passed to her from her father, aunt and grandfather. Lynore was blessed with an empathetic heart and knew from an early age that she wanted to be a teacher. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1979 and began her high school teaching career in Council Bluffs, IA. She then taught for two years in Columbus, GA before landing in Orlando where she spent the rest of her 43-year teaching career at Lyman High School in the Business Department. Teaching was central in her life as she developed a love for “her kids”, past and present – teaching, advising, mentoring and loving all of her students. Lynore was known to enter a retail store mid-July and stop suddenly to announce, “I smell school supplies!” She took great pride in her career achieving National Board certification and cherished her relationships with students and fellow staff. She received her Doctorate in Education in 2004, further establishing her life-long commitment to serving children. DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America) was a huge part of Lynore’s career for 37 years. Most recently she served as the Executive Director for the State of Florida. DECA allowed her to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. In addition, Lynore was a member of and active in Alpha Delta Kappa, a sorority of the International Honorary Organization for Women Educators. Family was, of course, a passionate priority for Lynore. She hails from Indiana and a large family of siblings, cousins, aunts and uncles that provided her foundation for the life and dedication to serving children and the Lutheran church. She was a devoted daughter, sister, teacher and friend whose presence and support never faltered. Lynore was pure joy with an infectious personality, positive spirit and love of life. Her love was unconditional and knew no bounds. She was generous and thoughtful, living her life guided by faith and a heart filled with fervent regard for others. Her absence leaves a tremendous void in the hearts of those that she loved so magnificently. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Joanne Levenhagen, and survived by her siblings, Jennifer Levenhagen of DeBary, FL, Matthew Levenhagen of Houston, TX, Michael (Michelle) Levenhagen of Grimes, IA, and Gretchen Schawe (Bart Schawe, dec.) of Omaha, NE as well as her nieces and nephews, David, Austin and Jaclyn, Cassandra and Brianne, Sarah, Kelsey and Rebecca, and Rachel, April, Brooke and Grace. In addition, 18 great nieces and nephews also call her Aunt Lynore. Her family asks that, in lieu of flowers, a monetary donation may be made to the Florida DECA Association & Foundation Scholarship Fund (850 Water Ridge Dr., Debary, FL 32713) and also invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her memory.
