Joanna Gertrude Keneally

Joanna Gertrude Keneally, age 88 of Lake Mary, Florida, passed away on May 29, 2022. Joanna was born on July 12, 1933, in New York, New York; the daughter of Giovanni Monteverde and Isabella Bertoli. Joanna was raised in North Arlington, New Jersey where she met her husband Bill, at Our Lady Queen of Peace High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree from Farleigh Dickinson University in 1955. During her college years, she was an inter-collegiate fencing champion earning her a chance to go to the Olympics. Joanna chose her wedding plans over her Olympic chances and married Bill on July 30, 1955. The newlyweds moved to Dayton Ohio, where Bill was stationed at Wright Patterson Airforce Base. It was there they had their first child, Kathy. Joanna called these years in Ohio the best in her life. Eventually, they moved to Carle Place, on Long Island, where their second daughter, Theresa, was born. Joanna would live in that house for 60 years. Joanna had a 35-year career in teaching, primarily in Hicksville, NY. She earned her Master's Degree from Hofstra University. Joanna retired from teaching in 1989, and then went on to become an ordained minister. She served as the minister at Unity Church of Christianity in Valley Stream until she retired in 2019. Joanna spent the last three years in Florida with her daughter, Theresa, and her grandchildren, Billy and Katie. Joanna was preceded in death by her husband William Keneally (d. 1985) and her parents; and is survived by her daughters Theresa Palmisano and Kathryn (Tom Marshall) Keneally and grandchildren William Palmisano and Caterina Palmisano.
