Dorothy Louise McWhorter

Dorothy Tudor Odham McWhorter, passed away on February 14, 2022. She was born on January 27, 1922 and lived a long life of over one hundred years. Dorothy was born in Pineville, Louisiana where she lived and attended high school and graduated from Louisiana College. She married her college sweetheart, James Brailey Odham and the couple moved to Sanford, Florida shortly after World War II. They had one daughter Bette. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and a founding member of the Pinecrest Baptist church where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. In the mid 1950's her father, brother and husband formed Odham and Tudor Construction Company which built hundreds of homes and several commercial properties throughout the Sanford area. Dorothy assisted home buyers in selecting paint colors and accessories for their homes. The couple divorced in 1960 and Dorothy then devoted her time to her daughter, and actively participated n organizations. She was a member of the Ixora Garden Club of Sanford and PEO Chapter XA for many years. She also taught Bible study in her church women's circle at the First Presbyterian Church of Sanford. In 1967 she married the love of her life James Luther McWhorter (Mac) and acquired four teenage daughters. They celebrated 41 years of marriage livnig in Sanford and also enjoyed time at their New Smyrna Beach condo in Win-San. Dorothy was an avid gardener and also enjoyed reading and needlepoint as hobbies. Her kitchen was always active as she was a wonderful Southern cook and loved to entertain family and friends throughout the years. She moved to Oakmonte Village Assisted living in 2015 and resided there until September of 2021 when she moved into Lexington Place Memory Care in New Smyrna Beach. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, Simon and Ollie Tudor, brother Bob Tudor, nephew Bud Tudor and husband James McWhorter. She leaves behind her daughter Bette Odham Cannavino (John), grandsons Mitch and Matt (Karen) Cannavino, great grandchildren Lauren, Anna, James and Lance Cannavino, nephew Mike Tudor niece Sue Tudor Miller, step-daughters Cheryl Leidigh (Mark), Diana Williams (Gary), Lynda Dunn (Bill deceased), Mary Abright (Mark) and numerous grands and great-grands. She lived a rich, full life and blessed many with her giving spirit.
