Carmen Buchell
July 22, 1933 - June 6, 2022
Carmen was born on July 22,1933 in New York City, New York. She was the third child of Luis and Vicenta Acosta. Carmen was the beloved sister of Eleanor and Louise and was the favorite aunt of six nieces and four nephews. Carmen graduated Washington Irving HS in 1951. She soon after met the love of her life, Lester Buchell. They were married on May 1st, 1954 and moved to Long Island City, Queens soon after. Carmen became the proud, loving mother of six children – Lester, Lorraine, Lynn, Louis, Luisa and Laniel. They remained happily married until she was widowed on March 3rd,1972 when Carmen was only 38 years of age. Carmen then proceeded to raise all six of her children on her own, loving each one as dearly as the next one. She was always there for her children and never swayed from her dedication to each one. She soon became the beloved grandmother of nine – Wallace, Mercedes, Jylian, Amanda, Carmen, David, Sara, Daniel and Olivia. In 1989, Carmen took in her granddaughter, also named Carmen, when one of her children needed her assistance. Carmen never hesitated and helped raise her granddaughter with the same unwavering love and devotion she had for all her family. In 1997, Carmen uprooted herself from NYC for the first time in her life and moved down to Orlando, FL with her granddaughter Carmen, whom she had now adopted. She purchased a house in Longwood to be close to her other children who were already down in Florida. Soon after, more of her children followed down to be close to her. One of the mainstays in Carmen’s life was her religious upbringing and her faith in Christ. She was an active member of Northland Church in Longwood, FL. Carmen always felt a calling to follow the lord and lived accordingly, showing love and kindness for all people she met. Those that knew her were fortunate to call her “friend”. Carmen did suffer more losses in her life, losing her oldest child Lester in 2003, then losing her second son, Louis in 2015. Through it all, Carmen’s faith in God never wavered and her devotion to all her offspring stayed strong. She also was blessed to become the cherished great-grandmother of Dante, Alexis, Sophia, Ava, Dimitry, Luke, Heidi and Isaac. Carmen Buchell passed away peacefully of congestive heart failure on Monday, June 6, 2022. She was surrounded by members of her family including children and grandchildren. Carmen lived an inspiring life and those that knew and loved her will miss her forever. The world will be a little dimmer without her bright shining light in it. The family of Carmen Buchell invites you to leave a message of condolence on the Tribute Wall created in her loving memory.
