Ronald Everett Ring

Ronald Everett Ring, age 93, of Altamonte Springs, FL., passed away on 7/23/24. He was preceded in death by his parents Conrad and LaVerne Ring. He was born August 4, 1930 in Evanston, Illinois and grew up in Chicago. He attended high school at North Park Academy where he was class president and valedictorian, along with being named the school’s outstanding athlete. He received his BS degree from Northwestern University majoring in Engineering. He was the editor of the Northwestern Engineer Magazine and President of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity, along with a host of several other organizations. He received his MBA degree from Rollins College. After 2 years in the Army, he moved to Florida and began working at Martin Marietta (Lockheed Martin) where he became the Deputy Technical Director of the Pershing Program and retired in 1991. He taught oceanography courses at Rollins College for 8 years and was very active in community affairs, serving on the boards of the Orlando Science Center, The Orlando Art Museum, and WMFE TV. He was a past president of the Central Florida Anthropology Society and planned several archeological excavations. He was appointed to 2 state commissions, The Florida Commission on Management Efficiency and The Florida Commission on Marine Sciences and Technology. While a member of the latter position, he supervised the study and published the results of the first Florida survey of land use and ownership in the state’s coastal counties. He was also the author of the book “Oceanography in Florida” and chief editor of “A Summary of Knowledge of the Eastern Gulf of Mexico”. He taught scuba diving and underwater photography, participated in oceanographic projects with several Florida universities and was chairman of one of the underwater Society of America’s national conventions. He was a pilot and former member of the Orlando Aero Club. He designed and prepared drawings for several small building projects and helped his children with renovations of their homes. An avid traveler, outdoorsman, and reader, he hiked and climbed mountain ranges around the world, including Mount Kilimanjaro, Machu Picchu, The Matterhorn, portions of Mount Everest, Mount Whitney and The Milford Track. He visited his grandchildren’s schools several times with presentations of his travels. His love of adventure will be forever installed in his family! Recently he mentioned “his cup runneth over” when his family came to visit. His favorite saying was “Tally Ho” and that was what he said to everyone instead of good-bye. He is survived by his loving wife Lynette; sister June (Peter) Lyon; daughters Wendy (Wally) Wheaton, Tammy (Daryl) Verhoeven, Cindy (Bob) Nunn and Kimberly (Alan) Housel; step-children Tracie Lusz, Joel (Angie) Lusz, Sharon (James) Livingston, Cindy Shafer, Mike Pigg and Jeff Pigg; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A family gathering is planned for September. “TALLY HO” dad, grandpa, great-grandpa; you will be forever missed.
