Robert 'Bob' Charles Barrett

Robert “Bob” Charles Barrett, passed away on November 1, 2021 in Orlando, Florida. He died peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife Bobbie, his children Jeff Barrett (Nicole), Jason Barrett (Laura), Cuyler Hill, Michael Ann Woodard (Michael), Merritt Gilbert (Ben), and Torrey Hill (Katie) and his grandchildren Jackson, Blake, William, Jordan, Gia, Rose, and Theo. Bob was born on January 12, 1952, in Keokuk, Iowa and grew up in Macomb, Illinois. He received his bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of Illinois in 1974 and his juris doctorate with honors from the University of Florida in 1978. Bob was a pillar of the Central Florida legal community. He was frequently named to numerous “Best” and “Top 100” lawyers lists throughout his career. He was recognized in “Florida’s Top Attorneys'' by The Wall Street Journal. He was inducted into the Workers’ Compensation Hall of Fame in 2019 and was recognized by his peers as “One of the 55 Best Lawyers in Orlando” every year since 2002. While Bob's professional accomplishments as an attorney are noteworthy, they did not define him as a person. Accolades were anathema to his midwestern sensibilities. His most impressive talent was his ability to make others feel important. His sense of humor and genuine interest in people had a gravitational effect. Everybody wanted to be around Bob. He loved to hear people’s stories. Anyone who spoke with him would be forgiven for walking away from the conversation thinking they were the most interesting person in the room. That was Bob’s way: always others, never himself. Bob loved being on the water. Whether navigating the channels of Sarasota or cruising the Butler Chain of Lakes, his passion for boating was contagious -- a fact that made his mediocre swimming ability all the more bewildering. Bob was at his best with his family. The mutual and enduring love and respect shared by Bob and his wife, Bobbie, or “The Bobs,” has been a beacon of inspiration to their many children and friends. Constant companions, the Bobs could most frequently be found in their natural habitat on the water. Sounds of laughter filled the house when Bob Barrett was holding forth. He was always ready with a kind word or a slice of wisdom. The lessons and joy he shared with his wife and children will never be forgotten.
