Raymond Glynn Lewis

Raymond “Glynn” Lewis, 75, of St. Petersburg, FL., passed away on May 7, 2020. He was born with dual citizenship in Newmarket, England, to the late Madge Elizabeth (Goodchild) Lauer and late Irving Lewis. Upon his arrival to the U.S., Glynn resided in Delaware City, Delaware, before entering the United States Military. Glynn, a Sergeant, and Vietnam Veteran, served in the U.S. Army from 1962 - 1968, where he was also a Paratrooper in the Special Forces. Shortly after that, Glynn returned back to Delaware where he lived in the cities of New Castle, and Newark, before heading south to Largo, Florida. It was during these years that he began his 45-year career of being a truck driver. Glynn is survived by his wife Debbie Lewis, and mother-in-law Elnora Bergen, of St. Petersburg, Fl; siblings Doug Lewis of Margate, NJ., wife Mary, and their four children. Guy Lauer of Clearwater, FL., and his two children. John Lauer of Largo, FL., wife Grace, and their two children. Sarah Thompson of Clearwater, FL., and her two children. Tieda “Missy” Bickerstaff of Pinellas Park, FL., and her daughter. Yvonne Lauer of Largo, FL., and her five children; son Steve Lewis of New Castle, DE., wife Jenifer, and grandchildren Nina, Taylor, and Kennedy. Stepdaughter, Tracy Brooks of Crested Butte, CO., husband Mike, and grandchildren Hope, Hilt, and Hayes; brothers-in-law Chris and Brian Bergen of St. Petersburg, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by stepfather John “George” Lauer, brothers-in-law Rick Bergen and Bill Bergen, Jr., and sister-in-law Brenda Wilken. To say that Glynn never met a stranger is an understatement. Always with a story to tell and a hand to lend, he was the first to offer support in times of both plight and celebration. He was a devoted husband, and a one-of-a-kind father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, son-in-law, uncle, and “Bop-Pop.” Glynn loved his dogs with all of his heart; he epitomized what every dog would dream of in a Master. In his earlier years, you could find him on the baseball field or at the roller-skating rink. Always up for a friendly game of darts, horseshoes, or pool, Glynn was a natural “people person.” He dearly loved fishing, dancing and listening to music, bowling, golfing, and attending Buccaneers games. Many lives were touched through the years by Glynn’s kind and fun-loving nature. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. A dignified, military funeral with full honors will be scheduled at a future date at Bay Pines National Cemetery.
