Nydia Rodriguez

Nydia Rodriguez, 66, of Altamonte Springs, FL, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011. She was born August 18, 1944 in Yauco, Puerto Rico to Crencencia Quinones and Juan Rodriguez. On September 11, 1960, Nydia and Fernando Medina married. March 31, 1961, they delivered their first child Fernando Medina, Jr. followed by Luis Medina in 1963, Xavier Medina in 1964, Magda Medina in 1965, and Yvonne Medina in 1966. The family then moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1970. The youngest of the 6 children, Elmer Medina was born in 1972. After spending 6 years in New York, Nydia had a house built in Puerto Rico and move her family back to her homeland. The kids had a hard time adjusting to their life in Puerto Rico, so the family decided to return to Puerto Rico in 1977. In 1979, the Medina's purchased their first home in East New York on the street that holds many memories for the entire family "Hill Street" . In 1979, Nydia became a grandmother for the first time to Jessica Medina, daughter of Fernando Jr. aka Negro. Followed by 21 more grandchildren: Janice, Steven, Amor, Joseph, Alex, Vanessa, Jasmin, Justin, Janina, Brenda, Jason, Michael, Joanne, Alexis, Ashley, Richard, Jacob, Jayla, Tiffany, Yamile and Mailene. In 2004, Nydia became a great grandmother to Adrien Medina, son of Amor. Six additional great grandchildren soon followed: Damien, Brook, Destin, Chasity, Amaiah, Devon and two more on the way. I'm sure you're thinking with such a big family how could she afford so many gifts on Christmas Day! Her secret was to start her holiday shopping the day after Christmas for the gifts next Christmas Day. She cared about her family and expressed it in many different ways. Her family is very thankful for keeping them together and molding them in to the family they are today. She is survived by her husband, Juan Carlos, and numerous extended family and friend. The family will be receiving friends from 5-9pm, Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at DeGusipe Funeral Home. A service celebrating Nydia's life will be Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 12:00 pm at DeGusipe Funeral Home followed by her interment at Highland Memory Gardens.
