Louis Franklin Kacic

On Wednesday, April 22, 2020, Louis F. Kacic, loving husband and caring father of four children, passed away at age 85. Lou was born on May 22, 1934 in Old Brooklyn, Ohio to Lou and Emily (Pimsner) Kacic. Lou met the love of his life Jean Bertoia while attending Brooklyn High School whom he asked to his senior prom in 1952. It was a date that lasted 68 years. After graduating from Brooklyn High School in 1952, Lou began his 44-year career at Cleveland-based Midland Steel Products as a Project Engineer. A few years later, on October 22, 1955, Lou and Jean officially pronounced their love for each other and were married and soon after began their family of four sons Al, Glenn, Scott and Jim. Lou was totally devoted and committed to his wife Jean. Lou and Jean were inseparable and together created a loving and giving environment for their family. Lou loved nothing more than to spend time with his family whether it was sitting down together to enjoy a plate of Jean’s spaghetti and meat balls or playing card games or just relaxing and talking and maybe telling a joke or two. During his sons’ formative years, Lou enjoyed camping practically every weekend during the summer months with Jean and the boys at Tamsin Park in Peninsula as well as traveling throughout the country in the family station wagon exploring all of its wonders. Lou participated in everything his sons were involved in from helping with the Boy Scouts and Indian Guides to attending baseball and basketball games and orchestra and jazz concerts to name a few. As his sons grew up and had kids of their own, Lou had the same strong devotion and love for his grandchildren. Lou was not only a great husband but he was also a great father, a great grandfather and a great great grandfather. Lou was also an experienced musician, playing the accordion and singing from a very young age. Lou put his showmanship talents to use with his band 'The Viscounts' who performed for special occasions on most weekends for over 25 years. There wasn’t a song that Lou’s band played that his family or his neighbors did not know due to the repetitive practicing Lou did at home each week with the windows open. Lou loved music! He also loved ice cream, grilling, ice cream, grilling, and yes, ice cream. Lou constantly had fun wherever he and Jean went and had an extraordinary family and group of friends that helped amplify the entertainment every time they were together. Tears of laughter were common when Lou was around. He was witty, filled with infectious humor, considerate, selfless, and most of all, full of life. To say Lou and his bride Jean lived life to the fullest with their family and friends would be an understatement. Lou was preceded in death by his father, Lou, his mother, Emily and his sister Carol. He is survived by his wife Jean, his four children, Al (Ellen), Glenn (Joe), Scott (Lori), and Jim (Josie) and his 7 grandchildren Meghan, Katie, Madison, Briana, Kailey, Grayson and Jack and his 3 great grandchildren Henry, Oliver and Walter. A memorial service to celebrate Lou’s life will be scheduled as soon as circumstances improve for group gatherings and travel.
