Lindsay "Uncle Gator" Allen was called home on January 1, 2019. It was expected, but unexpected. Lindsay fought a good fight against diabetes, but his body gave out. His spirit will live on in all that knew and loved him.
Lindsay is survived by Carolyn "Aunt Pootsie" Allen. His wife and best friend for 38 years.

Lindsay was born January 30, 1959 in Roswell NM to Edna and Jackie Allen. Jackie, being career Air Force, led to Lindsay growing up in many places. The family left Roswell when Lindsay was 4 and moved to Lakenheath AFB in England. From there they traveled to Dover, Delaware which is when his love of baseball began. As a lefty he was a natural pitcher and his brother Jesse was his catcher.
Lindsay and Jesse were quite competitive as they competed with and against each other in a lot of different areas, but mainly in sports. In Dover, Lindsay and Jesse began bowling in Saturday morning leagues and the bragging was always intense. The Allens moved to Abilene, TX when Lindsay was 10 years old. Here the baseball and bowling continued, as did the bragging. Lindsay was one of the top pitchers in the area and his team did well in regional competitions. His dad Jackie was able to coach his teams. One of Lindsay's fondest memories of his father.
At 16 years of age, Lindsay's dad retired from the military, which resulted in a move to Lakeland, Florida. Lindsay played baseball at Lakeland High School, and at graduation received an invite to try out for the Florida Gator baseball team, but his studies had more priority.
Lindsay wasn't just a jock, he also loved to dance. He and his sister Heidi took disco lessons and he taught at Arthur Murray. His dancing was one of the ways he captured his wife's heart. Lindsay was also very popular at weddings. Everyone felt special when Lindsay was dancing with them.
Lindsay graduated from the University of Florida in 1982 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. His first career was with Ampex Corporation in Opelika, AL. where he was Jr. Engineer of Solvent Recovery for magnetic tape. Ampex was a perfect fit for Lindsay. He loved music of every genre. Lindsay began his career in marketing in 1986 while with Ampex. He moved to Redwood City California and began his MBA.
In 1989 Lindsay joined his brother-in-law John Sexton in Florida to try his hand at small business ownership. He finished his MBA at University of Central Florida, and as Lindsay never had small ideas, he returned to corporate life with General Instruments/Motorola. His proudest accomplishment was his part in the introduction of The SURFboard branding for internet modems. It is still in use today.
From Motorola Lindsay moved to Dallas with Commscope and served as the Director of Strategic Planning and Marketing and finally to Atlanta where he was Vice President of Marketing for Superior Essex.
Lindsay's health began to decline after leaving Atlanta, but knowing he still had much to give others he started his Doctorate in Marketing. He looked forward to teaching and had begun looking for opportunities to share his knowledge and experience. Lindsay was one course and his dissertation away from being "Dr. Gator" He planned to finish in 2019.
Lindsay loved to travel. He had pretty much made it around the world. Europe, Asia, Australia, South America and in The United states from Alaska to Hawaii – California to Maine. His love of travel made for many great memories for all who traveled with him.
As mentioned previously, Lindsay loved baseball and whenever he was near a stadium would catch a game. He planned many corporate outings around baseball even seeing a game in Japan. More than once a vacation was a series of ballgames in different towns. He continued to play baseball into his late thirties. He traveled to Italy to play in a "Roy Hobbs" league, ( from the movie "The Natural") - a traveling baseball league for "old" guys."

His other love was the Florida Gators, hence the nickname Uncle Gator. Just don't plan any events during Gator games. He might be there, but you can be sure he's checking the score somehow. If you didn't know what to get him for a gift, anything orange and blue or with a gator was well received. His home is full of Gator memorabilia.

Lindsay Allen was a great man and his life and legacy will never be forgotten.

A memorial for Lindsay will be held on January 26th at his home in Apopka.
